SEOUL EXPAT WILFRED LEE, ARTISTS JOURNEY CREATOR, ART DESIGNER, AND COMEDIAN: STYLE IT UP!

WILFRED LEE and the creator of DISTRICT GAL crossed paths two years ago. It was Through a mutual interest in ART that sizzled this meeting, at A Wilfred Lee artist exhibition that took place in Myeongdong. (One of District Gal’s all-time favorite shopping playgrounds.) Wilfred has many entrepreneur ventures from comedy, art, and his entertaining Artist Journey podcast.

Korean male fashion is a combination of K-POPers, B-Boys, businessmen, and GQ mag style looking men strutting down the streets of Seoul. They almost always wear a blazer with a collared shirt and tie. Almost any man can catch a girl when wearing a good-old-suit-jacket and tie. Western fashion is a bit more modern in the sense of being able to pull-off business casual by wearing a blazer with a dressy Armani t-shirt. There are many modern takes on both classic and modern styles. Wil likes to roam around DONGDAEMUN DISTRICT for his male threads. I recommend the boys to try some of these Korean inspired looks and share your thoughts on your shopping challenges back home or in Korea.

WILFRED LEE SAYS, “I’m concept designer currently working in Seoul. The brain-child behind the ‘Artist’s Journey’ where he hosts podcasts with other versatile artists do comedy on the side.

Biggest Passions: “There’s a few things I enjoy doing such as writing and music but essentially I love to draw. It’s one of the most simple yet challenging ways to create something out of nothing. All it takes is a pencil and paper.”

“As far as I can remember, drawing has always been an integral part of who I am. It’s become the driving force in what I do. The daily practice of drawing in my life has taught me how to observe the world more closely and see deeper into the meaning of things and nature. It’s a very liberating feeling.”

“The Korean fashion scene definitely has it’s own unique take. I love going to different parts of Seoul like Hongdae or Gangnam and seeing the variety of styles influences by the environment. Here I truly realized that fashion is a conversation between culture and environment; constantly changing topics that go out of style. “

“Consistency is key! As a foreigner there’s a tendency to have a ‘temporary’ mind-frame in everything you do, but have that one thing that keeps your creative juices flowing become a daily ritual. Doesn’t matter if its for 10 minutes or 1 hour, its the dedication to your craft. You’ll hopefully reach that point where you are free to truly do what you want to do, without being constrained to one location.”

“I’d love to see fashion makeovers for men and women. Seeing how their one personal taste can be accentuated. It be interesting to see how that affects their personality and evolve their sense of fashion.”
